BIG-NAME STORES MAKE SHOPPING A PLEASURE
On the Port Elizabeth side of town our new R145million shopping complex - Rosehill Mall is attracing shoppers from the whole of Ndlambe. Woolworths - with an already expanded Food Hall and Homewares section - has added a new dimension to shopping in the area.
Other national stores are a superbly spacious and inviting SPAR Superstore and Tops Liquor Store, Clicks, Ackermans, Foschini, Truworths, Markhams. American Swiss Jewellers, Miladys, Edgars Red Square, Bargain Books, Quiksilver and Roxy with more on the way.
Icon Hair and Oxygen Fitness Centre are both run by a very lively lady called Gill who also has a hairdressing salon in Dubai and she pops off there every six weeks or so and always comes back with some exciting updates on life there.
You can stop for coffee at Big Apple - their cakes are made on the premises and really are divine - or Letter Cups which also incorporates a bookstore. Not only can you see the sea as you exit the mall, there are stunning gardens all around making Rosehill a very green and pleasant place to shop.
And right in town on the bank of the Kowie River is a four-star boutique hotel (below) quaintly named MY POND - with conference and restaurant facilities. It's getting great publicity with a fantastic article on its Green Credentials in Simply Green magazine.

Vistors to the hotel get great views up and down the Kowie River and at night can enjoy the dazzling, dancing lights that make the arched bridge so spectacular. The in-house restaurant - also quaintly named E-TA-RE (get it!!) - offers delectable light lunches and an extensive a la carte evening menu. On the edge of the Lagoon is Flyboyz, offering tasty, inexpensive meals and loads of entertainment. It's become a hub of activity on Monday evenings when local punters flock there to play poker. Competition is stiff and the tables are often thronged till way after midnight. Also overlooking the lagoon is a bistro-type, homely eatery Burksies where the proprietor will mix and match any items on his menu to suit your individual fancy on the day.
Another venue favourited by the ladies is The Pillar Box where owner Vicky Petersen has hung up the welcome sign and introduced a tempting lunch menu that changes daily. In the same complex is The Wine Garden and C'est La Vie where stunning platters of cheeses from worldwide are served with crisp fresh breads and delightful wines, including organic. This sunny little venue is perfect for a late afternoon drink. Worth Attitude is a cute store selling a myriad of fascinating craft items, all from the area. Quality is their keynote - no tat here!
Another possible development is one step closer to reality. And that is a small waterfront complex between the two bridges. This will feature tourist shops, a small supermarket, restaurants and upmarket condominiums. An environmental impact study is under way and hopefully, when the report is presented, the project will get the go-ahead. It would be a wonderful tourist attraction and would provide much-needed jopb opportunities for locals.
If any entrepreneurs are reading this, then get in touch as there are plenty of exciting possibilities. We welcome new ventures and applaud those with exciting ideas and enthusiasm.
P.S. As we have only one robot in town - that you never need go through if you don't want to - there are no traffic jams to hold you up from enjoying our Paradise Lifestyle. Want to know more then e-mail PA Business Forum
