APRIL

·          MAD HATTER GOLF TOURNAMENT. Hundreds of golfer descend on Port Alfred each year for this fun golfing extravaganza. Fortunately the area experienced some rain just in time to turn the fairways a reasonable shade of green. For more detailed information on this annual event check the golf club's web site at www.rpagc.co.za

JUNE

·          GAME CLASSIC - an annual or bi-annual fishing competition that attracts keen fishermen from a huge area. There's much activity centred around the Ski Boat Club.

·          GRAHAMSTOWN ARTS FESTIVAL. This attracts a lot of people to the Eastern Cape and many stay over in Port Alfred and travel daily to shows and other events in Grahamstown. It's a marvellous mixture of theatre, art, crafts, music, drama and general jollification. This year's festival clashes with the FIFA Worl Cup but the positive effect is that the festival will be a week longer than usual. Check out www.nafest.co.za

JULY

·          Annual TOURISM INDABA at Civic Centre.

·          Grahamstown Arts Festival continues into July.

·          ALL THE ROYALS GOLF FESTIVAL when players from the five Southern Africa Royal Golf Clubs – Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Harare and Port Alfred - come to town for a weekend of  great golf and camaraderie.

SEPTEMBER

·          INTER-VARSITY ROWING RACES. A three-day highlight and fierce competition between South African Universities.

·          VINTAGE FAIR – Held in Bathurst. Antiques, fashion shows, music, auctions etc

·          POWERZONE FESTIVAL -  Huge music scene to tie in with Inter-Varsity Rowing.

DECEMBER

·          INTER-SCHOOL ROWING RACES. A really fun-filled week of practices and then the highlight of skulls flashing over the beautiful Kowie River.

·          NEPTUNE FESTIVAL. Held each year in Kenton-On-Sea, this is an almost two-week festival aimed at the youth over the Christmas period.

·          The BATHURST OX BRAAI - a now-famous braai held in the Bathurst Show Grounds catering to thousands. One of the highlights of the festive season in the Eastern Cape.

Craft Markets and Art Festivals are held over the Christmas holidays and throughout the year on notable public holidays and long weekends. Bathurst has a very interesting - and booming -Farmer's Market every Sunday morning. Drive along the main road and you can't miss it. And once a month there is a Moonlight Organic Market at The Postmaster's Centre in Princes Street, Port Alfred. Lots of divine organic produce and wine for sale.

Port Alfred Business Forum is currently working to encourage more Festivals and Attractions to town. Suggestions welcome. Contact any of the committee.
