Strolling along a deserted, golden beach may seem like a dream to most people. But when you come to live here that dream quickly becomes a reality. Here you don't need to pump iron at the gym or spend aching hours on a treadmill. Here your daily exercise is taking the dogs or just yourself for a long walk along the kilometres of sunshine-baked sand and gazing out to sea.

There are also fascinating "views" closer to town to capture your interest. We have loads of tempting coffee shops, art galleries and a thriving rug-making business where floor coverings and wall hangings are manufactured. They are to be seen all over the world and closer to home in the Constitutional Court and at Sun City. Of course you can order one for your own floor!

Several of our restaurants also offer amazing vistas. Every night our own "Nico Malan" bridge is ablaze with coloured lights from dusk and you can enjoy a grandstand view from The Buck & Hunter at The Links, the Ski Boat Club Uopper Deck restaurant or from Ocean Basket where ourdoor, riverside tables are bagged early every evening. Every hour, on the hour the bridge lights put on a 10-minute show as strobes of vibrant colour flash up and down and across the arch of the bridge. And on summer evenings barges can be ordered to take you on the river for an even more exciting front seat for the Dancing Lights Show.

Water is all around Port Alfred. As well as our wonderful beaches there is the stupendous Kowie River. Navigable for close on 25km. Idle your way along this meandering river and who knows what you'll see – maybe giraffe, impala, zebra, wildebeest, bushbuck, fish eagles and kingfishers. It's true - you can be lucky and spot the lot on one lazy river trip.
There are many barges offering cruises up the river or if you're feeling fit, take a canoe and go at your own pace. The vegetation growing on both banks is lush and colourful. You'll feel you've landed on a different planet.
