Visitors to Port Alfred all want to know what life is like on the Marina and so flock to take one of the regular cruiises through the canals. This affords one a close-up of the many lovely homes, many of which are now occupied on a full-time basis. In face the Marina is now a thriving suburb of Port Alfred. One of the most-often heard comments is that the homes appear almost cheek by jowl. However, what casual observers don't realise is that each home has stunning views down long stretches of water and this offers a feeling of "space". Homes may seem to be side by side but are designed in such a way that no one actually looks directly into the house next door. Residents say they don't notice their neighbours and don't feel any intrusion. And now that the Marina is about to come of age - it's 21 years this year since its inception - the trees and other foliage have turned it into a very green and pleasant place.

Barging has become a way of life through the Marina canals as many home owners enjoy leisurely sundowner cruises.

Sammy our resident seal is seen most days basking on the canal walls or on someone's jetty. He'll wave a flipper as you sail by.
