PORT ALFRED - Small Town with BIG Ideas!

Founded in 2005, the Port Alfred Business Forum represents a cross-section of Port Alfred's commercial and industrial activity. The Forum is a catalyst for the development and exchange of ideas, a medium to explore new business avenues and partnerships and an opportunity to build lasting relationships with other successful professionals.

The Port Alfred Business Forum is a key leader in the development and maintenance of our community’s economic health as it pertains to business. The Forum represents business when local issues need leadership to develop informed solutions.

Port Alfred Business Forum champions the Route 72 Initiative to encourage tourism; to increase employment opportunities; to create a happy, safe, sustainable environment to be enjoyed by all who live in our area. We welcome enquiries from anyone interested in relocating to Port Alfred and will do all we can to encourage start-up business ventures, entrepreneurship and those wanting to come settle in what we locals know to be "Paradise".

So much happening in this dream coastal location!

New shopping mall, new hospital, new hotel...

Whereas other towns and cities have experienced drastic slowdowns, Port Alfred is enjoying an explosion of new ventures. Rosehill Mall Shopping Centre is one and just down the road the brand new Port Alfred Hospital. A new boutique hotel - curiously named My Pond (above) - opened on the river bank and there are two other shopping and business centres on the drawing board. KOWIE FM on 99 dot zero started broadcasting a year ago and this local 24-hour radio station has attracted a very large following. The new Sunshine Coast Tourism & Events Authority is going full steam ahead with establishing vibrant Tourism Offices and Marketing Teams to promote the undoubted charm and fascination of our area.

Our local Ski Boat Club hosts loads of activities from fishing and rowing competitions to fish braais and dinners. There's also a very popular bar. Next door is the NSRI base. On the opposite bank is the Halyards Hotel and it's from here that visitors can hire water cycles and small boats or book a river cruise round the Royal Alfred Marina and up the Kowie River. There's lots to see from water buck, bush buck, wildebeest and zebra to secretary birds, yellow-billed ducks and even Sammy our almost-tame seal.  It's also great fun looking at all the boats and barges that constantly cruise our waterways. Children can make lists of all the unusual names on these craft. And there are some fun and funny ones!
